Female Barbers is the New Black!

Nowadays, you can't walk into some barbershops without noticing the elephant in the room: the woman barber. The ladies have replaced the curling irons with electric clippers! Female barbers have been around for centuries but under the labels of "hairdresser" or "cosmetologist."

As a female in a male-dominated industry it is really stressful, plenty pressure and tons of fun! There have been days when I have had men shut me down in my face because I was a female, then there have been days that men walk in and would only prefer a female to service them.
When I first began cutting in a barbershop, it was very different than cutting my friends and family in the garage. These clients were complete strangers and did not know anything about me or what I was capable of. So, there were the side eyes, awkward stares and blatant denials. After many days of leaving the shop discouraged, ready to give up and some nights in tears, I realized I had to toughen up and prepare for those days when it seemed so bad. After building my courage, I was able to put my fear to the side and take these guys head on!

Understand that female barbers went through the same procedures and schooling that your average male barber did. We demand the same respect as he does, we are no different and most cases are better than the barber down the road! Yes, I said it. I know many female barbers that blows the socks off these men! We have so much more to prove so therefore we work harder, practice more and learn all that we can so that we are not overlooked. This industry is already competitive as ever and we are climbing to the top of that totem pole!

How could anyone deny a woman's touch??
